Technicians cant update product used on workorder

Hi, 
 
I have a Field Service application. When my technicians use their tablets in the field the cant (by deafult) register that they have used a product. My technicians have the Field Service Ressource role. 
When they try to mark a product as used they get the following error message

 
I have fixed this by adding the team they are part of to a column security profile. 

My Question
Have i done something wrong? Should users with the Field Service Ressource role not by default be able to use the app as it is? Marking products as used is an important part of the app.

    That looks correct, as the security role and the column security profile are added.
