Large Scale dynamics NAV infrastructure at Azure

Hello!

We are having a dynamics NAV 2017 product and i am confused about the architecture of IaaS. We are having 250-300 users at physical sites, conected with VPN at azure. We got a large application server that is running the NAV services and a large SQL DB as a services. The problem of this setup is the performance and the availability/resilience.

I would like to have high availability and better sql performance because imagine getting reports concurrent users at the same time. Is there any suggestion at how i should build a suitable enviroment?

I was thinking to create an availability set at azure, using 3 or 4 VMs that will run the NAV server and use an azure load balancer in order to share the load from the connecting clients. Is that a good approach or do you recommend me anything else?

About the SQL DB that is running as a service, it has very poor performance despite the high scale it has. How should i approach this? Is it better to buy an E series VM and setup an SQL server?

thanks in advance!

    hi,

I normally recommend 20 users per Service Tier.

Take care with load balancer, it is necessary to sync a specific key otherwise the ServiceTiers don't start (sorry, I don't know what key exactly - I'm 'just' a consultant/dev :-)).

We have 350 users and we use 3 middle about 100 users per Middle tier

We have SSD RAID 10 hard drives for sql MDF files and separate SSD RAID 10 for LOG files and SSD RAID 10 for Temp Db on sql server.

The sql server has 1.0 TB of RAM Memory.

One middle tier is running on the SQL Server itself.

The 2 other Middle tier are running of VM at 64 GIG of ram each.

The size of our database is 1.2 TB and we process about 1000 Sales Orders .  Our large Sales orders have about 1000 lines and small orders are about 10.

We have no locking or performance issues.

We have setup SQL high availability replication and run all sql SSRS reports from replicated database.

Cost post to GL is done nightly through job queue.  Adjust cost is done nightly.  Lanham AFP is done nightly.

Lanham EDI is done through job queue jobs.

Currently Sales order are shipped and invoiced, in future we plan to just ship them, and move invoicing to nightly process as well.

Getting this setup in SQL AZURE will cost a fortune if it's even possible.

oh my god the cost is huge. I maybe consider an on-premise approach. Despite that, is there any link/guide that describes the procedure steps for a high scale setup? I am trying to find an initial blueprint for this.

How to load balance the users with multiple services? Should i use clustered sql servers or anything else? I will need a general roadmap and then i will decide if i will implement it at azure or on premise.

I made a mistake about the total users but it won't change much, there will be 150 concurent at daily basis.

thank you all for the answers!
