We are using standard manufacturing and the biggest problem we run into is 'swapping' out parts. We start a build with Part x and want to change to part y. After there is a ledger entry on that item you cant actually remove it from the production order components lines. You can Zero the quantity and post a negative quantity in the consumption journal to release it back to stock but that line always shows up on the components lines.
One easy answer that one might consider is changing the flushing method of our components to backwards that way nothing gets 'consumed' until we close the production order. The problem with this is that Our manufacturing dept is set up and has processes and procedures in place that lend to a manual flushing method for everything. they have adopted a very lean principle and they aren't going to change, right wrong or indifferent.
The other problem that we have is that sometimes we open a production order and consume parts against it and later decide to scrap the project. And I cannot for the life of me figure out how to terminate a production order that has had consumption posted against it. I don't think that this is possible as it would directly violate the purpose of a ledger.
All in all NAV is not very conducive to a prototyping environment and I am able to make it do what I need, just not as easily as I would like. I simply thought that I can't be the only person in the world trying to prototype in NAV.
Thanks
