Hi,
this might be a dumb questions, but we do have an ongoing (long going) discussion if an SSCC needs to be assigned for each carton - although stacked onto a pallet - or for the completed pallet alone.
Reading through some of the MS blogs the target license plate in the SO picking process (in the format of a SSCC 18) would suggest that's it is applied on pallet level.
So in simple terms
1 pallet with 18 cartons of the same product - 1 SSCC or 18 SSCC?
1 Pallet with 18 cartons of different products - 1 SSCC or 18 SSCC?
In case the answer is 1 per pallet, how would the structure of an ASN EDI notice look like? I presume 1 Pallet 1 item 18 cartons is pretty straight forward, but how about the second scenario where I have multiple items on one pallet?
I guess the same question is valid for the Inbound ASN as well?
BTW ... we are working on introducing AX2012 R3 CU10.

I have the same question (0)I think you need both pallet SSCCs and carton SSCCs. The data should be created/available, but what the ASN looks like depends on what's shipped.
It's been awhile since I've used ASNs, so I might be a little rusty, but as I recall, the data structure is like this:
Shipment
Order - could be more than one order placed by the customer, but shipped together
Tare (pallet) - pallet SSCC
Pack (carton) - carton SSCC, on the associated pallet
Item - item level info, in the associated carton
There's only one shipment record, but the rest repeat as necessary.
A shipment with one order, a pallet with a carton containing 3 items, another carton containing 2 items, then a second pallet with 1 carton with 1 item in it:
If everything on the shipment is single item pallets, I think you wind up with:
Shipment
Order - could be more than one order placed by the customer, but shipped together
Item - item level info
Tare (pallet) - pallet SSCC... as many records as there are pallets for this item
No pack level info required.
If you have more than on item, you'd have multiple Item records followed by tare records for each associated pallet.
Being able to move product between pallets on the dock is key to getting accurate data. If 2 pickers pick to 2 LPNs but then consolidate their product onto one physical skid, there needs to be function to get the system to match that. Generating SSCCs on demand for specific LPNs would be a nice feature too.
It would also be nice to have a flag that says whether carton level info is required though, so clients that don't need to send ASNs don't have to deal with all the overhead of creating that data.
