Print to PDF displays Save As dialog for one user istead of opening preview

Hi All,

We are on NAV 2013 and have one user who suddenly began getting a Save As dialog when printing to PDF.  This option used to open the document as a PDF similar to a preview.  All other users are still getting the file opened and displayed as a PDF except for this one person.  I've looked through settings in NAV, the PDF software (both PDF Creator and Adobe Reader), browser setting, etc.  This user had been seeing the file displayed as a PDF until some point yesterday afternoon, but cannot remember what she may have done to change the behavior.  Can someone help me find out how to reset this?

It might depend on the version of operating system and browser.

    E.g., try opening

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellAttachmentExecute{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

in system register (run RegEdit) and delete values, relevant to PDF.

    This should reset the behavior.

    Alexander,

The registry key you list does not exist on the system.  The OS is Windows 7 and while I found the key value, the node that was referenced is not present.  The key value indicates Internet Explorer and there were no references related to PDF in any keys or sub-keys anywhere in the registry for this value.   I d feel like this problem has to do with some registry vale as I tried a repair of the NAV client install, remove/re-install the PDF software etc. and no effect.

I strongly believe this issue is related to Internet Explorer behavior, as there indeed is a setting of Save As, which once selected users are not able to return back with normal methods. Historically it has been cured by deleting the register key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute{something}, which by default should have no values. Does it have any values?

Try also no only HKEY_CURRENT_USER, but HKEY_USERS and check relevant user.

did you install a local pdf printer driver ? if yes, maybe the settings were changed.

    Alexander,

Sorry for the delay, I got wrapped up in other issues.  This key that you mention: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute
does not exist on the users system.  The user has Nuance PDF Converter Pro as the PDF generating software.  There is also Adobe ReaderX on the system, but the default PDF program is Nuance and the PDF drivers are ScanSoft and Gaaiho (both are loaded with the Nuance product).

    You can try another way:

In the Windows Client go to your start page (role center). Then click one the left upper Corner (blue Dynamics nav button). Then click:

    - customize

    - Reset User-Specified Settings

Here you can reset all or some specific personalisations of the Client. Please Keep in mind, that also moved Actions, menüs and so on will be set to Standard Settings of the Profile.

I haven't try it, but I would give it a try.

    best regards

    Robert

Have you checked also HKEY_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute for the relevant user?

We finally did get this corrected. I think Robert may have been on the right track.  We renamed the PersonalizationStore.XML file on the client and re-launched the NAV application.  This reset the printer prompt to "always ask".  Unchecking always ask and selecting Open corrected the issue.
