Yes, you can add the dimensions to the posted entries. You need to create a process report to add dimensions to the posted documents and to associated GL Entries and Item ledger entries.

Yes you can do it with a codeunit or with a process only report.

First check the combination of the dimension in the "Dimension Set Entry" table and then if it is available you do not have to do much things. If it is not available in the "Dimension Set Entry" table create a record in the table and get the ID of that set entry.

Then go to the "GL Entry" table and against the particular entry you need to update the column "Dimension Set ID" with the ID you got from the Dimension Set Entry Table.

Before doing that, you should add controls to avoid the posting entries without dimensions.

One way of doing that is setting the dimension mandatory to relevant GL accounts. : msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh167859(v=nav.70).aspx

Other way is check the dimensions at the time of posting the entries.

By doing these small small things you will be able to make the client happy and also it will make your life much simpler.

Thank you all for the quick response. If you can give me the steps that I need to follow in developing the process only report it will be helpful for me.

Please try it with a test database and then if you have any problems then get back to us. Giving each step will not help you in your development.

    hi,

The process only report is very simple.  Once you are in the DataSet Designer (in the report designer from NAV), move the cursor to the blank line, goto the properties and set the ProcessingOnly to yes.

    Best Regards,

    MMV

The process only report is nothing but not having anything to print but instead used to process some code for you.

Below link shows how to to create that report.
