Posting of Transfer order between warehouse and location

Dear Experts,

I would like to check and clarify with you all. We are using Dyanamic AX 2012 R3.

I have analyzed on our Transfer order process and scenarios are as follows.

Stock A, 20 Qty are transferred from WH-002M, Loc-002M to WH-002V, Loc-002V0134.

Default loc setup for WH-002M is Loc-002M and WH-002V is Loc-002V001.

There are two steps to complete the above scenario.

1. After posting (Ship and Receive) Transfer Order for Stock A, 20 Qty, first Stock is transferred from WH-002M, Loc-002M to WH-002V, Loc-002V001.

2. After that Transfer Journal is automatically created by system to transfer from WH-002V, Loc-002V001 to WH-002V, Loc-002V0134.

In inventory transaction become as follow.

Is it standard process go this way? Why is that controlled by transfer journal again?

Hi Sweety Star,

After Transfer order, transfer journal is not mandatory or necessary. In Standard AX, transfer journal doesn't get created automatically.

In your case, if it's getting created automatically, you need to see if you have any customizations in this area.

Also if you need inventory in "Loc-002V0134" location finally, you should be able to register/receive at this location during transfer order receipt process.

Thank you for your reply and advice.

Yes. It would be customization there. I think we cannot place one location as default because there are several location under 002V. I think due to this, there is customization in Journal.

What we are facing now is that sometime transfer is only finished on step 1. It means stock is not placed on correct location.

Using a Transfer order to move inventory between different warehouses, and using a Tranfer journal to move inventory between different locations in one warehouse are both quite common solutions.

If you were using the Warehouse module in R3, you would be able to receive the Transfer order using a hand held device, and could automatically prompt the worker to 'put away' the inventory to a different location. Without the warehouse module, you do not really have anything to automatically help with this 'put away' step.

Are you using master planning ? It creates transfer journal if the setup on item master is available for the same. Also check coverage group , In that you will be able to find Both warehouses and location ( from and to ) which reads as default for item transfer.
