Multi Month Opportunity Reporting

Posted on by 10
Hi,

How do I config D365 Sales to do the following:

  • Create a Contract Opportunity where the total Estimate Revenue will be split over six Months

Example:

We have an opportunity for a dev to be contracted to a client for a six month period. The cost for this is $12000. This Opportunity should be split over the specified six months. The Close date is 31 Mar 2024. The contract will run from 1 May to 31 Oct 2024.

Do I create a new field in the Opportunity Form?

This must surely be a common requirement but I've not been able to source anything useful online.

Cheers

To configure Dynamics 365 Sales for this requirement:

    1. Navigate to the Opportunity entity customization.
    2.
    3. Create a custom field for "Total Estimate Revenue" if not already present.
    4. Additionally, create custom fields for "Start Date" and "End Date" to define the contract period.
    5. Develop a custom plugin or workflow to split the "Total Estimate Revenue" evenly across the six months based on the contract period.
    6. Update the Opportunity form to display these custom fields for easy input and reference.
    7. Ensure the logic is in place to handle any adjustments or changes to the contract duration.

This approach allows you to maintain accurate financial forecasting and revenue recognition in line with the contract terms. If needed, consult with a Dynamics 365 consultant or developer for more tailored assistance. hydrogen executor

    Hello Community member,

in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales and by Design it is not really foreseen to split amounts in an Opportunity over a specific interval. It is easily not included in the by design process. Even in the Sales Forecast Functionality it is not really possible to display splitted amounts - it is much more related to fixed price topics where an Opportunity or an Opportunity Close is related to a total amount.

To reach your goal you need to workaround it with own extensions, if really necessary.

If you often work with projects and amounts to split, maybe Dynamics 365 Project Operations would be a better fit.

    Rg,

    Alexander

*Due to the complex and different possibilities of deploying Dynamics 365 I highly recommend not to setup the application without some expert/partner or support. (For more information contact me under anassl@inno-solutions.info or visit www.inno-solutions.de)

    Dear User,

You can create a calculated field which will take input as the estimated revenue and no of months.
So that you can divide it with the no of months and will get the value

    Thank you,
    Amit katariya
