Products with serienumber

Hi!

We do sales and service of forklifts. I have used Field Service for almost 2 years but I think we use it in a very slow way when it comes to products.
When we order forklifts from the factory we create a single product for each forklift. A forklift can have different liftheights, with our without cabin and so on. This kind if spec makes the price.
F.ex when I order 40 forklifts I generate 40 different products, even if its only 1 thing thats different between them.

Then I have to add 40 products to a Purschase order and than receive 40 product and after some time it will be a jungle of products.  Very big job when we can sell up to 1000 products each year.
Sometimes the products can be completly the same in an order. So f.ex instead of do 50 x Product A, I generate product A x 50.

How can I do 1 mainproduct and then receive them all in to stock with serienumber?

If forkliftbusiness is hard to understand lets just give a quick reply from car business.
How do make a difference in price and inventory for this products:
- Tesla S with metalic paint, upgraded rims and long distance battery
- Tesla S with standard paint, upgraded rims
- Tesla S with standard paint

How to solve this in a best way?

Very thankful for answer.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Orjan,

    Here are my some suggestions.

    1. You can add a Product Family for products to manage them, this Product Family can be your "mainproduct".

    pastedimage1616136824583v1.png

    With product families, you can:

    • Categorize your products in whichever way is most meaningful to your organization.

    • Create child products and product bundles within a product family. (Product bundles allow you to sell multiple items together.)

    • Create as many levels of product families as you want by creating a family within a family.

    More informaton: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/sales-enterprise/create-product-family

    2. For product properties that do not affect the price, such as multiple colors with the same price, we can add Product Properties to the product.

    pastedimage1616137275578v2.png

    More information: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/sales-enterprise/use-properties-describe-product

Please note that Product Properties does not change prices.

    3. You can separate products and accessories.

For example, Tesla S with metalic paint, upgraded rims and long distance battery, here 'metalic paint', 'upgraded rims' and 'long distance battery' can be counted as separate products. So there are four products including Tesla S.

Then create a Product Bundle containing these four products.

Just for the sake of completeness, in addition to product properties there are also asset properties: Asset properties in Dynamics 365 Field Service | Microsoft Docs They don't affect pricing, but allow you to track conditions/readings over the lifecycle of the asset.

Hi! Thank you for your time to answer me.

If we do like you say in number 3.
How can we see whats on stock? I will not look good if it says:

    Stock:

    2 x Tesla S
    1 x Rim
    1 x Metalic paint.

The equipment is installed and have to be seen as 1 unit also in stock.
And also, when we do a purchase order. How will this be done?

I just can see how to do an easy solution with products without creating a single product for each variant.

    This doesn't seem to work?

I have setup as per the document, however the asset does not show the Asset Properties even if you associate that asset with an asset category?

    Any ideas? Thanks Andy

Just in terms of terminology what you're looking for here is called "serialized inventory" - this is not currently supported by D365 Field Service as out of the box functionality, though it is part of D365 Supply Chain (docs.microsoft.com/.../register-serial-numbers-sales-process) but you'll have to setup integration. In other words, an alternate answer to your question is to configure/customise Field Service to capture serial number per product and use that in inventory, work order product etc., or use D365 Supply Chain.

    Sorry, no easy answers here.

Andy, I see you associated the template to the asset category. Can you also share a screenshot of the asset properties (that you don't see)?

Hi Alexander, thanks for the reply.

Please see the below screen shots. I followed the instructions on the below link, but the properties tab does not show in the asset. Is there a option you need to initiate for this tab?

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/field-service/asset-properties

I would like to achieve adding custom properties to an asset. On the help file it shows a properties tab on the asset:

    pastedimage1616403356894v2.png

Here is an example of the asset properties I would like to attach to an asset:

    pastedimage1616403223374v1.png

Here is an example of an asset, which is set to the correct asset category.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Andy

Got it, so it's not that the properties are missing, the whole tab is not being displayed. This problem has been reported before, e.g. community.dynamics.com/.../asset-properties-tab-missing-on-customer-asset-form-in-my-dynamics-365-field-service-installation

Even if no properties are defined, the tab should still be displayed. Can you make sure you are on the latest FS release and that there is no custom JS or business rules on the form? If that's the case you probably need to file a support ticket. If it's not a production instance, you could try activating Early Access to see if that fixes the issue.

I have finally managed a work around, actually a much better way of doing this for our company. I achieved this by editing the Custom Asset Window on Power Apps and customising the required data fields we needed.

Example below. I also customised the Active Customer Asset window to show the same data. Assets are now much easier to manage.
