Scenario:
I have a biannual preventive maintenance task that covers 4 separate assets — 2 mixer/kneader screws and 2 extruder screws — all within the same functional location (Press section) on one production line. They're maintained together in a single maintenance window/campaign.
Each of the 4 components has its own distinct Asset ID, but they share the same Functional Location.
What I'm trying to do:
Raise one work order covering all 4 assets (e.g., as 4 separate lines within the work order), rather than creating 4 separate work orders for what is really one maintenance event.
What I've found so far:
Looking at sample work orders already generated at our site, each work order line does have its own Asset ID field, which suggests this should be possible. But I haven't been able to confirm:
Whether a maintenance plan can be configured to generate one work order with multiple asset lines, or whether plans are inherently tied to a single asset (generating one work order per asset by default).
If it's not supported via a maintenance plan, can multiple asset lines be added manually to a single work order after creation, and does checklist/task tracking still work correctly per line?
Any implications for cost tracking, downtime reporting, or maintenance history if 4 assets are grouped under one work order instead of kept separate.
Has anyone set up a similar "multi-asset, one functional location, one work order" structure? Would appreciate guidance on the correct configuration (maintenance plan setup, work order template, or manual line entry) to achieve this.
