Anything to consider for Dynamics 365 users when their UPN is changed in Azure?

Dear all,

our M365 admins plan to switch the domain part of the UPN for all users (let's say, from username@old_url.net to username@new_url.net).
I'm a D365 admin but not M365 - and my concern is that there might be trouble with updating the "username" field in the Dataverse "systemuser" table

I have already found https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/microsoft-dynamics-crm-forum/209209/user-name-update/551184 but found it a) confusing as there was ambiguous advice and b) too old  (5y) - so it didn't really help

Can anybody judge what impact the UPN change has on the D365 world - and what we have have to consider in Dynamics 365 to make the change smooth to the users?

Thanks and best regards
   Ihno

    Hi Jiban,
we didn't have problems with the security roles - from my experience they only get 'lost' when you change the BU.
However, our change was 3y ago... ;-)

    Hi
What happens to the security roles configuration when UPN is changed? Person is able to login but doesn't get the security role and hence permission issue comes.
    Thanks,
    Jiban

Dear all - in the meantime we have performed a test that looks promising:

    * Changed a username from testuser@old_url.net to testuser@new_url.net in Azure

    * Looking at the table "systemuser", the "username" field has been changed

    * Login works as expected with the new username

    * Looking at the table "mailbox", the "email-address" field already had the new_url before, so I guess there will be no impact

However - if you have any further annotations or hints - maybe about things I didn't consider , I'd be glad to receive your feedback!

    Thanks a best regards
