ODBC Error

I Received the following error trying to install GP 10.0 on a Windows 7 64bit PC. Not sure why as I was installing Dynamics GP 2010 so of course it wasn't installed.

"Error configuring ODBC data sources: Dynamics GP 2010 error 6: Component not found in the registry. Verify that the file Dynamics GP 2010 exists and that you can access it."

I've been trying to install GP 10.0 on this PC for a week and can't get anything to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Douglas

Have you attempted to perform the install and choose to not have the installer create the ODBC connection?

You will then have to manually create the ODBC connection (use 32 bit, not 64 bit).

It doesn't seem to give me the option to Not create the connection. However now it's telling me that the ODBC drive is bad and to reinstall it. Which I have several times but can't get that to work now either. Just not having any luck with this. Not sure why it's only 64 bit OS's that give me such grief with Dynamics.

    Hi Douglas,

     Open Run: ÿ + R

     Paste in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

That is the ODBC connection you need. You can also get to that through Windows Explorer. 64 bit operating systems have more than one ODBC connection and the default found in Administrative Tools is not the correct one for GP.

    William

I agree with William on this one. There is no difference when install GP on a 32-bit compared to a 64-bit. If you notice that when you do get the install to go through it is actually installing GP to the 32-bit program files this is because GP is a true 32-bit application.

To me it sounds like you are using an installation package file and not the install media.

Do you have full Administaitive rights on this computer? Dynamics GP uses the 32 bit ODBC driver. This sounds like you either do not have full control of the windows regsitry or the registry is damaged. I wold make sure you are logged on as Administrator and if that does does work I woukld try reinstalling ODBC off the MS download site.
