Hi guys, quick question; we're currently developing on multiple environments with U7, App release 1611, and we have to upgrade to the July 2017 Application release. As I understand, there's no way of upgrading the application on any environment, the only way is to deploy a new VM... is that correct? Does anyone know if Microsoft plans to change that in the near future?
Thanks!
The data upgrade process would have to happen anyway, new VM or not. You're upgrading to a new version so you need to upgrade code and data, that is really independent of the VM.
Thank you so much for your answer Joris! Yes, I agree with you on that... my only problem with this way of delivering updates is the whole data upgrade process, but thankfully we'll have to worry about it only a couple times a year.
This applies to any type of environment except for live/prod envs, right?
Thanks!
Deploying a new VM is the only way. This is not a bad thing - a new VM can sometimes come with newer components like updated SQL version etc.
