Resource Priority Selection

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

I have 2 resource with the same capability "Assembly". Resource 1 is given Priority 1, and Resource 2 is given Priority 2.

I create 2 Production Order that need capability Assembly. Both of the Production Order have same quantity and due date.

When I run the schedule job, both of the Production Order is using Resource 1 (with different starting time of course). Why does the second Production Order not using Resource 2? It doesn't make sense to me because Resource 1 is full at that time and Resource 2 is having no job at all. What setup do I need to make the second Production Order using Resource 2?

Thanks in advance

    RE: Resource Priority Selection

Because it can fulfill the delivery schedule. It is the sequence of the planning engine.

It looks at the requirements and tried to fulfill it. It looks through the resources one by one and if it can fulfill the requirement with the first resource... Why should it waste time looking for an alternative.

Though there are some optimization that can be done.

Go to System administration > Setup > Scheduling > Parameters and increase the time for optimization.

Then go and run production planning with multiple run troughs.

Then the system will try to optimize... It will also use a lot more time.

Not sure of the outcome, but worth a shot. Good luck.

Both of the resource don't have any job yet. I just confuse with the resource priority scheduling. Why does AX choose resource with highest priority for two production order with same delivery date while there is another resource available?

Do you not have manufacturing capacity to do them both in one day on the one resource?

    Hi Fredrik,

Yes, I am using finite capacity. Both of the production order have same delivery date, which is 5/11/2015. But the schedule job seems to ignore the delivery date.

That is off cause if you are using finite capacity...

As long as you have time to produce both items before delivery on resource 1, this will be suggested. If your resource is missing capacity, then Resource 2 will be used.
