Hello GP Users,
We are planning to upgrade to GP 18.4.1361(October 2021) and our current version is GP 18.2.1013(October 2019) based on my research our upgrade path should look like this, am i correct ? Thanks in advance for your help.
(October 2019) 18.2.1013 --> (October 2020) 18.3.1173 --> (October 2021) 18.4.1361
Reference : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics/s-e/gp/hot_topic_mdgpupgrade_415
You can go directly from 18.2.1013 to 18.4.1361.
It should read if you're on 18.2.1013 or later, you can upgrade to 18.3.1173 or later.
If you see the note right below that in this article, it mentions we have successfully (and support) an upgrade from 18.00.0496 directly to 18.4.1361, so you should be fine.
Obviously, we recommend a test upgrade, but version wise, you should be ok.
Thanks
Hi Derek,
Thanks for your response, as you mentioned based on the note yes i should be fine i guess. I will update on this thread incase there are surprises .
Why are you stopping at 18.4.1361? 18.4.1436 is the current release with a new release due out in June.
I was able to successfully upgrade from 18.0.672 straight to 18.4.1384.
I try to get from the same "seasonal" version to the next, even if a few years apart, as that usually was a tested scenario by Microsoft.
Richard,
I don't apply the January hotfix if it does not address a specific problem the customer might run into yet.. I know the year-end build are usually stable and have the fixes that might come forward from the October "annual" release. The mid-year, if not absolutely required, I skip too unless the customer is running payroll and needs them.
Thanks Beat for your response.
@Richard, Like Beat mentioned we don't use any of the modules which fixes came after 18.4.1361 and also we usually upgrade 6 months old version so that we know it is stable by now.
On the same lines, is there a thread which compares all fixes/changes between last to new version ? I am looking for all fixes/changes from version to version as below. Thanks in advance for your help.
18.4.1361 --> 18.4.1384
18.4.1384 --> 18.4.1434
18.4.1434 --> 18.4.1436
Preetham,
There used to be on Customer Source PDF files to download called "GP_xxxx_fixlist.pdf" for every release.. but those are now mostly gone into Microsoft Blog posts or on the Docs site.
You might be able to find those links in the "What's New" sections of GP releases.

Thanks Beat for quick response. As you mentioned i found individual posts for list of fixes/changes in these new releases.
Are you working with your GP reseller? They can give you the complete list of fixes.
Hello Everyone,
We actually revised our upgrade path and we are planning to upgrade till recent hot fix 18.4.1436. I think we can upgrade directly to latest hot fix, Upgrade path would still look like as below right ?
(October 2019) 18.2.1013 --> (October 2021) 18.4.1361
you don't need to apply the latest build 18.4.1436 which is essentially hot fixes for minor bugs introduced by the YE build (1384). Unless you're installing GP for Australia, at which point you don't have a choice, as the build 1384 broke several functionalities in GP, which are partially fixed in build 1436, but a complete hot-fix will be release mid- or end-June for Australian customers.
