I’d like to expend my Dynamics knowledge from CRM to ERP. Expert please tell me

  1. What are the differences between AX/NAV and 365 F&O.
  2. They are same knowledge line or not.
  3. My CRM dev skill, like C#, JS, sql and so on, can also used in ERP domain, or I have to learn other dev knowledge?
  4. Any suggestion and advice to be appreciated.
I have the same question (0)

    1. You shouldn't put AX/NAV at once side and D365FO at the other. D365FO is a new version of AX. Did you mean differences between AX and D365FO, differences between NAV and AX/D365FO or differences between D365FO and what you know, i.e. CRM?
    2. While you can reuse some knowledge, different product (and type of products, such as CRM vs. ERP) clearly require different knowledge.
    3. Generic programming skills are applicable everywhere. Your knowledge of C# etc. comes handy from time to time. But AX/D365FO uses its own language (X++), tools etc., which you would have to learn. You can learn it on DLP, you can find a lot of information in D365FO documentation, you can by a book and so on.

    Hi Datadvancer!

    1. AX and NAV are the two different systems. AX and D365FFO - the same.

    2. CRM knowledge and ERP knowledge are different.

    3. Your skills, like C# and SQL can also be used in ERP domain, but you also need to learn X++ programming.

    Thanks Martin and Rustem.

    Now I have some primary concepts of the Dynamics ERP. But I still have several questions below, please kindly give me suggestions,

    1.Are the following name road map correct?

    Dynamics AX -> Dynamics 365 Operations -> Dynamics 365 F&O Enterprise Edit -> Dynamics 365 F&O.

    Development environment: X++, MorphX.

    Dynamics NAV -> 365 F&O Business Edit. Development environment: C/AL, C/SIDE.

    2.If I want to extend my Knowledge domain from Dynamics 365 CE to ERP, where is my start point?

    3.Dynamics 365 F&O(AX) development only need to learn X++, right? Not like CE, there are front end and back end development with language C#,JS,….

    Thanks in advance.

    It would be  helpful to go through a couple of videos on DLP and youtube to get started.

    As pointed out, Fundamental difference between ERP and CRM needs to be know and business knowledge is needed to gain expertise in ERP.

    Current name is  Dynamics 365 F&O and development environment for that is Visual studio . X++ is  the primary coding language but having other skills are beneficial such as C# , JS , SQL knowledge etc.. as you already mentioned above.  MorphX is only required if you are working on AX 2012 or earlier version. To start , there are serval resources available . This link has all the documentation needed to start your study . In addition to this link you can use Dynamics learning portal and serval other material from the web.

    Hi,

    You can start from the basic knowledge of development tools and X++ programming language from here: docs.microsoft.com/.../developer-home-page
