GP reports saving to incorrect network location

In our AP department, all but 1 staff member is on Windows 10.  As of recently (with no changes made in GP), all of the Windows 10 users are encountering an issue where they save their GP reports to a shared network location, but the file instead saves to their local/user drive.  They then have to go find it (apparently it also renames it something weird), and then re-save it to the shared network location.

This does NOT happen to the 1 staff member that is still on Windows 7.  Thoughts?

    Hi,

I agree with Richard... it's a bad practice to use mapped drives, as Windows might drop that mapped drive anytime for any reasons and then not find it when it comes time to use it.. UNC paths are much safer are they don't require a 'permanent' connection (i.e. mapped drive letter).

Are the users only selecting a location ? do they provide a file name ? if not, GP will just default one when the file is generated.

You also show that 'Adobe PDF File' is selected as a format, which means presumably that every user has a full version of Adobe Acrobat PDF Writer installed on their workstation.. this is a rather costly option, as there are cheaper way of generating PDF output (even for free), by not using the "File" option as output, but simply a printer queue defined as PDF (i.e. Microsoft PDF is free and comes pre-installed on every Windows  now).

My experience over the years has been to stay away from Adobe products all together when working in GP.. too many troubles with the output and formats generated by GP that Adobe wasn't writing properly to PDF format (even since version 8.x of Adobe).

We always use UNC for our clients. Can you set up a network share for these files and use UNC as opposed to drive mapping?

Just circling back around to this -- I have a screen print below.  There isn't a pre-defined file path, so the users browse to the network location as shown below.  Although they are selecting the H drive location, the file will save to their U drive with an obscure file name.  To make matters more confusing, this is sporadic.  It happens only sometimes, although they say majority of the time.  They know when it does happen because the PDF document will pop up and display automatically.  It sounds to be mostly an issue with the PM Transaction Posting Journal and Transaction Edit List.

I think it would help to see the Destination window to show the location on both the Windows 10 and non- Windows 10 machines for the specific reports in question.

If the system is generating the report directly to file then the setting in the Report option window has to contain the location for that report to be saved.   As well, it provides the name to be used.

Post a screen clip of that window to allow the community more information to assist you with.
