Inventory Part Number vs. Customer Part Number

Posted on by 5

Currently when entering an order, we can enter our item number, or our supplier number or customer item number and on the order it will fill in our item number.  We would like a 4th option to enter the OEM part number and have it pull our stock number.

We have several parts set up as an inventory items which we crossed from an OEM part number.

Our customer has their assigned part number (abcde) and the original OEM part number (12345).

Our supplier has issued their number (zyxw) for this part.   The customer keeps ordering it by the original OEM part number (As it is printed on the used worn out piece they have in their hand).

Is there a way in Great Plains to have an alias for an item .... the customer calls and says "I need part 12345 (their stock number abcde which may or may not be supplied at time of order)",

Our inventory number is 98765 (our supplier number zyxw).

We need to order zyxw when they want 12345.

We use the customer item number to show and print their inventory item number on all paperwork.

Looking for suggestions.

    Hi Debbie

The Item Number and Customer Item Number are about all we'd have.

You could perhaps use a Substitute Item field

Or perhaps some customization was was previously mentioned.

    Thanks!

I am not very much familiar with Manufacturing but what you are looking for is possible with the help of customization.
