Standard privileges for General Ledger Module

Dear expert,

Been wondering, do D365 Finance has standard security role or privileges for General Ledger only ?

so only GL module will be shown by this role.

Or we should create one?

Many privileges only show menu items that are in General Ledger module.

But thinking about the module might not be sufficient.

What business processes do you want to allow for the user? Everything in GL module? Including all parameters, creating new Chart of accounts and so on? Most likely there's no such role that would grant you full access for everything in GL module but not show anything from other modules.

Could you tell us a bit more about the functional requirement?

Hi,

no specific, it's just currently we're only using GL module. So it is per business processes ?

what about a standard accounting personnel task ? Is there ? will it be enough to only show GL module ?

You can check the Accountant and related roles available. You can check under System admin > Setup > Security > Security configuration. Here you can select the dole and check "View permissions".

The current Account role doesn't mean it will show GL module only. It will show the Fixed assets module as well (for an example) where this role has permissions to maintain journal transactions.

I am not aware of such a role or privilege.

I think that something like this will be very difficult to realize.

Why?

Imagine that you have a role as GL accountant and can post GL journals.

GL journals allow you to post transactions into subledgers (AP, AR, Project, etc.).

Even if you don't have a right to go to those subledgers you could still influence them by making postings in an ordinary GL journal.

I think that it is doable restricting the access to GL only but that it would be quite cumbersome and time consuming to make all the necessary setup and put the restrictions in journals, forms, etc. in place.

Why do you need this kind of restriction?

Hi ShaqAX,

Can you tell if your question has been answered or do you need some help from us? You can use some accounting related roles or build new roles on standard duties and privileges or new custom duties and privileges. Some menu items are used on multiple menus. In that case, you will see the General ledger menu, but also another menu where this same menu item is used. In the past, there was e.g. a form for legal entities on both the GL and Organization administration menu.

Like mentioned above, some features are not in the GL menu only. If you want to use payment methods, then the user will also get the menus for accounts payable and accounts receivable (with limited options). Also note that the default system user role will give access to several options apart from the GL menu.
