Running GP and AX on the same machine

Hi,

I have read the article by David Roth and have used his file launch_gp.ps1.

I have altered the path to where GP is located on the machine.

I am not sure where to place the launch file,

I have tried running it, and then click on the GP launch icon , but still receive the same error message.

Could you please advise me how you achieved this?

Thanks.

RE: Running GP and AX on the same machine

So you are trying to run GP and AX from same machine. DO you have GP2010? as the issue was with gp2010 and not the login of GP10 as I read the article.

So my question is did you follow the instruction for the provided solution? The launch_gp is a power shell script having batch file to update the path for the assemblies creating problems. If you don't want to get involve in batch file then simply move the assemblies from GAC path to the AX folder or just rename them as suggested in the article.

There are a couple of solutions.

The first one would work with GP & AX or GP & SL loaded together.

For this, we would actually move the assemblies out of the GAC and put them into application folders to the respective applications can find then.

In the files.zip attached – the move_ax.bat & move_sl.bat are simple batch files that move the “problem” assemblies from the GAC to the “proper” SL/AX local folders. You would need to modify the paths in the files to take account of your actual install folder(s). If I was a bit less lazy, I would re-write those as Powershell.

The easiest solution and the one I would recommend would be to just temporarily rename the files in the GAC, launch Dynamics so that it loads the versions in the GP folder, and then rename the GAC files back again.

In the files.zip file, the launch_gp.ps1 is a Powershell script that automates this for you.

To use it, make a new shortcut to Powershell (v1, v2, or v3 as you have installed – the example below is v 1.1)

    The shortcut would be:

    %SystemRoot%system32WindowsPowerShellv1.0powershell.exe “c:dynamicsgp2010launch_gp.ps1″

You can modify the file by using Notepad, PowerGUI, or the windows Powershell Editor to adjust your path to Dynamics or the sleep time (30 seconds currently) to a smaller delay.

I second Almas' questions, while we wait for the answers you can try the following:

    • Update the 'GP' shortcut properties with the new path in the 'Target' and Start' in fields
    • Update the 'GP Utilities' shortcut properties with the new path in the 'Target' and Start' in fields
    • Update the DYNAMICS.SET file with the new path, this file is normally locate in the GP folder: e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2015\
    • Update the DYNUTILS.SET file with the new path, this file is normally locate in the GP folder: e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2015\
    • Update the Dex.ini file with the new path, this file is normally locate in the Data folder: e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2015\Data\
