Auto reversing non-recurring general journals

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a way to create general journals that will automatically reverse without using the recurring general journals page? Our accrual accounts and amounts change every month, so the use of the recurring general journals is not useful to us. Additionally, we have templates for general journals that are already set up and would have to be overhauled in order to accommodate using the recurring general journals page instead. Any insight is helpful

Yes, it is possible to automatically reverse general journals in Dynamics 365 Business Central without using the Recurring General Journals page. Here’s how you can handle monthly accruals with reversals while using the standard General Journals page, preserving your existing templates:
The solution is Use the “Reversing Entry” Field on General Journal Lines
In the General Journals page (not Recurring), you can mark individual lines as Reversing Entries, which will be automatically reversed on the date you specify in the Posting Date + 1 day or a custom date.
Steps:

Open your existing General Journal template (e.g., ACCRUAL).

Enter your accrual journal lines as usual.

On each line, ensure the “Reversing Entry” checkbox is checked.

Post the journal as usual.

After posting, the system will automatically generate reversing entries on the next day (or specified date) using the same accounts and amounts, but with opposite signs.
This works without needing to use Recurring Journals, and you can keep your current journal templates intact.

Hello,

There is no other standard auto reversal function for journal apart from recurring general journal.

You will have to customize it.

What I can suggest is to turn on Posted General Journal and use copy line function with Reverse Sign and Replace Posting Date as an alternative if customization is not a choice.

Hello,

There's no standard functionality to automatically reverse general journal entries outside of the Recurring General Journals page, you can still achieve this using standard general journals by enabling the "Reversing Entry" toggle and specifying a reversal date. This allows automatic reversal upon posting without changing your existing templates. Alternatively, you can manually copy and reverse journal lines or automate the process using a custom extension or Power Automate flow, preserving your current setup while streamlining reversals.

Thank you all for the replies. We are currently on version 22.6 and I do not see a field available for the "Reversing entry" field. Even when I go into personalize there is no reversing entry field. Is there something that needs to be done to allow for this field to be an option?

There's no such field. That answer must be AI generated which is incorrect. As the other users mentioned, there's no functionality in the system that will achieve what you're looking for automatically. Yi Yong's solution is probably your best bet.

This is not possible with standard BC functionality. Standard reversing entries must be set manually on each journal line.

You need custom development with AL code to automate this based on your business needs.

Recommendation: Contact your partner for custom solution.

If you have developer: Use these events to add custom logic:

OnAfterGLFinishPosting

OnAfterPostGenJnlLine

Standard BC doesn't support automatic reversing for changing accrual amounts without using recurring journals.

Agree with Valentin. In addition, if the function is frequently used, it is recommended to customize it.

In addition, BC22 has been out of support for almost a year, so please upgrade to a supported version as soon as possible.

Hello,

The answers you see that mention "Reversing Entry" is generating answer through AI as Valentin mentioned.

The field is only found on Dynamics F&O (Finance & Operation) and not in Business Central.
