Making Unit / Default Unit / Unit Group optional

Hello Dynamics Community

We're having some issues where the Unit field on the Opportunity Product Quick Create form occasionally doesn't autofill and won't let the user fill in the field.

We aren't working with units, only using the Default Unit because it's required by the system. Our business will not require the use of Units or Unit Groups at any point, so I was wondering if there is a way to get around using these entities.

If I make the Unit field optional for Opportunity Products, it is still non-removable from the quick create form.

Any help is appreciated, even just confirming that these entities are required by Dynamics. Thanks.

    Hi,

I don't quite understand what you mean by “doesn't autofill and won't let the user fill in the field”. Would you please provide some screenshots to explain it?

Have you added the product into the price list of the opportunity as Price List Item?

If yes, when you add the existing product into the opportunity, the default unit will be automatically populated.

The Unit field itself is not a required field in the Opportunity Line entity, but it is on the Form. Business-related required fields are not recommended to be customized as Optional

If this helped you, I'd appreciate it if you'd mark this as a Verified Answer, which may in turn help others as well.

    Best Regards,

    Nya

    Hello Nya

The Opportunity Product field "Unit" occasionally doesn't populate automatically when users add an existing product. I haven't been able to recreate the issue myself, but have had two reports from users.

This is a screenshot I received from one of these users. While the Unit field looks unlocked, the user is unable to input the Default Unit (our only Unit)

When you say it's a requirement for the Form, I suppose this is also the case for the Quick Create Form for Opportunity Products.
