Having active maintenance plan, you are able to purchase new objects. E.g., you need to make a new development to make a new report, but you can't as there are no more free reports in the range. You need to buy more reports, for that you need your maintenance plan to be active.
You also would have access to CustomerSource where you can download training materials, software, latest hotfixes and updates, and get support from Microsoft directly.
The newest version is available for migration also when you have active maintenance plan. If you do not pay for few years, and then decide to continue, you would need to pay for all those missed years, plus huge penalties (in some cases, it would even be more reasonable to buy new licenses then trying to renew old licenses with missed maintenance plan).
Following are the benefits of renewing MS BREP.
1) You would get all the hotfixes, services packs, Cumulative updates from MS
2) You can buy new user licenses
3) You are eligible to migrate to latest version of NAV without any charges.
If you do no renew, you would not be able to get the above benefits.
