How to copy ax live environment to another environment without data?

Hello,

I would like to copy aos live environment to another environment without data. How can i do that ?

I did this way but i was not able to run the service.

1. I make a script from sql to copy table structure from sql using sql "script database as " function and i run that query in new sql

2. I restored model and baseline databases from live environment to my new environment and them i made the dynamics ax server configuration

Everything was fine but i was not successful to start the service.

Anyone Can help me?

    Two steps

    1) Prepare Environment-2, with complete installation

    2) Move ModelStore from  Environment-1 to Environment-2. I repeat ModelStore, not model.

    Your way indeed isn't correct. You have to use the installer to get things installed correctly.

    An alternative way is installing the same version of AX and then exporting and importing custom models only. Taking the whole modelstore and using it with a database prepared for a different modelstore could still cause problems with IDs, although I believe that all critical tables use fixed IDs and everything else will be empty, so it doesn't matter in practice.

    Other way, such as the way you are doing, does not seems feasible or healthy.

    Nobody knows details of "what happens as you create AX Database by running AX Setup". Because that's something by Microsoft. Trying to create tables of SQL on ENVIRONMENT-2 is not proper way. Also it may miss any binary components that are properly installed as you do it with AX Setup.

     

    Another idea can be taken into consideration, which is creating a virtual machine or replica of your original   ENVIRONMENT-1. For this, you need help of an administration guy who is expert of managing Operating systems. Or you can refer at any OS forums/community, where they may suggest you how you can quickly create replica of original server. After creating replica, might be some minor changes needed in ax configuration and database (In case computer name is changed for ENVIRONMENT-2)

    I cloned live environment to another environment I have same AOS in another environment but I am not able to clone SQL like AOS, Data is about 1.1 TB and I don't have enough space for that. That's why I want to create a new DATABASE i did this as i mentioned above but service is not starting. I don't know if there is another way i can continue from here, if not I will delete all what I did and I will setup new AOS and then move ModelStore from Live to my new environment.

    other ways can create issues. nobody knows what issues.

    As those ways are not recommended. I would appreciate if you can adopt Reinstallation of AX on Environment. Running installer will make sure that you will not miss any binaries or installation files.
