Data Import Error

I have recently started work on a new Dynamics 365 online instance. I am trying to import a small (30 account records), batch of records to check that the import method works. I manually created 2 accounts then exported them. I added my additional data to the spreadsheet. I initially ran the import from the interactive hub, which did not request a .csv file. The import ran but upon examination, only copied the 2 original accounts and rejected all the new ones.

I couldn't find any logical reason for this so I switched to the traditional web client, and ran an import from the Data Management/Import option. I saved the spreadsheet as a .csv file. I ran through the import process and ensured that all the fields in the import were either matched or set to "Ignore". As before, the original files were showing as copies but the additional account data was rejected.

Does anybody have any idea why this has happened? I have carried out numerous data imports before on earlier solutions, without problem.

Some suggestions would be welcome.

    RE: Data Import Error

    Hello Thijs

    Many thanks for your response.

Yes, I did use templates for the data import. The problem was that I had data in the top row underneath the header titles. Once I cleared that row the data imported. I don't know why that is but it made the difference.

    many thanks once again

    RE: Data Import Error

    Hi Chris,

Data management is the place to be for your challenge. Did you use 'Templates for Data Import'?

During and after the import process, you can monitor the status of the import via Data Management > Imports. Here you will see the number of Successes, Partial Failures and Errors. By double clicking the record of your import, the Import Source File opens. On the tab 'Failures'  you can see the reason for the failures. Could you please share this information with us?

    Kind regards,

    Thijs van der Klei
