Is there a way of scheduling on demand backups for Dynamics 365 online?

My client is not happy with potentially losing 24 hours worth of data and wants to increase the database backup frequency. Has anyone else solved this challenge?

I think your client may not understand the backup options. The every 24 hour system backups are taken primarily to provide a means to revert back to a previous backup (e.g. in the event of accidental or malicious deletion of data). Dynamics 365 online uses a combination of high availability tools to avoid data loss, and does not depend on the every 24 hours system backups.

That said, MS have recently released the Online Management API which allows you to automate the taking of system backups if that's what the client wants

We are saying the same thing.

potentially losing 24 hours of data is to big an impact to the client. Therefore they would like backups to occur more regularly. If Dynamics 365 Admin interface does not provide this we will have to look into a custom solution.

Didn't the previous answer help:

Using the Online Management API, you can perform various tasks on your online instance such as create, retrieve, delete, backup and restore instances, and other instance-related tasks. Until now, administrator could only manage the online instances using the Dynamics 365 Admin Center.

Good luck not a great start, my first attempt restoring a backup on an Online Instance via Portal.

Fail.

Had to reset Instance, now look whats missing, probably by Design ;-)
