Zones in the Warehouse Management Process

Hi

Are zones required to be used when setting up a warehouse using the new warehouse management process or can you just use locations?

If zones are not used does this affect the use of licence plates?

Thanks in advance

No it is not mandatory for warehouse process. Its optional if you want to use.

Zones are not required, and not using them will not affect the use of licence plates.

You won't be able to configure WHS to do anything by Zone. But if you don't want to do that (i.e. you have some other way to usefully identify locations), then there isn't any benefit I can think of for having them...

... oh, I found one. The Location setup wizard allows you to create locations by Zone!

Hi Harold Turner, I agree with Prashant and Guy, Zone is not a mandatory.  However if you have Zone, end users will get many benefits.  Typically Enterprise level Organizations will use this feature effectively.  Refer blog post referred by Prashant

    Hi,

I have a scenario. I am currently having on hand inventory in the following locations.

    Loc1 : 5   Location type: picking

    Loc2:  7   Location type: bulk

    Loc3:  8   Location type: bulk

I have a picking requirement of 9. System should first scan all the locations for 9. Since 9 is not available at any location, it should look for a location where quantity is less than 9. Here, in Loc3, since it is 8, it should automatically pick 8 from Loc3 and the remaining 1 from Loc1, which is a picking location.

How to configure this scenario in ax 2012 R3 using advanced warehouse management.

    Hi Abhishek,

To look for a single location which can fulfill the full requirement, create a Location directive line with 'Allow split' unticked. Use the query on the Location directive action(s) to search locations in the order that you want. Because Allow split is not ticked, the Location directive line will only be used it if can find the full quantity in a single location.

'Pick some from bulk and some from a picking location'

I struggle to get AX to do this one. You would add a second Location directive line which has 'Allow split' ticked. As before, the Location directive action will search for locations in the order you tell it, but I cannot think of a way to get the exact result you describe. If you were already going to bulk to get 8, wouldn't you like to remain in bulk to get the remaining 1?

The query on the Location directive action includes the On-hand inventory table. You can ask it to search locations in descending order of Physical Inventory, which would get it to use Loc3 first. But then it would find Loc2 for the remaining 1, not Loc1.
