stock management - item group setup

I recently took over at a company using Axapta 2009.  The WIP transactions are not working correctly, and I don't understand how the item group postings work and where the values come from that are being posted.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  We don't have any support as we have "amended" the system too much over the years

I have the same question (0)

Moved that question over to the 'AX forum'.

Can you please provide us more information about the WIP transactions you refer to?

Are they related to production postings, project module related transactions or something else?

Some additional information / screenprints, examples, etc. would help us.

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

    Hi SueNottm,

This is a very broad question. You don't mention what exactly is incorrect. Are you referring to manufacturing or projects? Do you have one question where your comments are related or do you have multiple questions?

    hi SueNottm,

Can you please confirm If your question is referring to Manufacturing business because handling WIP transactions is one of the most critical area in manufacturing cycle specially when we talk about cost accounting process.

Apologies, I'm referring to manufacturing. The problem I have is that the WIP value in the TB is a credit and its getting bigger all at time.

Clearly the GL postings from the manufacturing process aren't working correctly and I'm struggling to unravel them.

Does give more detail to point me in the right direction?

    Hi SueNottm,

This indeed sounds odd. Can you confirm if the production orders are cost calculated and ended as part of the process?

Can you share a screenshot of the inventory posting setup? It might be the case that a same ledger account is used for WIP, but also e.g. the cost or inventory.

    Hello SueNottm,

As Andre mentioned, can you share screenprints of the inventory posting setup?

    (Inventory/setup/posting/posting)

When doing that please indicate the account type used for each transaction type (P&L or BS account).

What we would need in addition is an information whether you post your production orders by resource or category. This is a parameter setting in the production module. Depending on what is setup there can you also share the posting setup that has been made either at the resource or category level?

Finally, also double check whether you use indirect cost elements in the costing sheet. If this is the case then please also share details of those configurations.

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

Yes are part of production products are ended and costed.  IM not sure where I would find the inventory posting set up?  We use item groups and there are GL coding in there - is that what you mean?

    Hello Sue,

Many thanks for sharing those details.

What about the other things that impact your production, such as resource consumption? How are the postings setup for those resources?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
