Hi,

I have no knowledge on AX and we are doing some monitoring configuration for AX.

Alerts:

Application Object Server (AOS) NetTcp connection refused

Application Object Server (AOS) NetTcp host reachable

Application Object Server (AOS) port host reachable

Application Object Server (AOS) port connection timeout

Application Object Server (AOS) port connection refused

Application Object Server (AOS) NetTcp connection timeout

Question 1:

Will any expert be able to explain the differences in the where exactly is monitored. Any thanks.

Question 2:

Does rollup in AX defines that there are multiple instance running on the same server and it is a consolidated view from all available instances?

Alerts:

Rollup from Reporting Services instance to Reporting Services environment

AOS watcher rollup from port ping health watcher

Rollup from Enterprise Portal to Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 environment

Many thanks,

CM

Have you installed the management pack for AX 2012? It provided many of the various monitors out-of-the-box.

Those indicators seem to be related to the AX Application Integration Framework, which is a WCF-based WSDL service/port. Rollup does not mean anything from a technical perspective for AX. Reporting services could be deployed on separate servers in a scale-out deployment. I believe you may only have one Enterprise Portal deployment connected to AX, but it could be executing on top of a SharePoint server farm which again could consist of multiple servers.

    Hi Steffen,

I am not managing SCOM and have no access as well but I do know that these are implemented:

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Application Integration Framework Monitoring 6.3.158.0

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Enterprise Portal Monitoring 6.3.158.0

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Environment and Application Object Server Monitoring 6.3.158.0

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Reporting Services Monitoring 6.3.158.0

    Hi Kintera,

Do you have any idea on Question 1?

    Question 2:

What I understand from the environment, there are a 3 AOS Servers, 1 Enterprise Portal, 2 Reporting Servers, 2 Batch Servers and 2 DB Servers.

Since they are separated, can I say that the rollup alerts are invalid in this case?

I am unsure about what do you mean by "where exactly is monitored". SCOM deploys the monitoring package on all servers that you add, and then collects the information from the Windows performance counters. Those ones are just simple counters for Microsoft Dynamics AX as well.

A rollup could maybe mean a health rollup? Depending on the package, if the health rollup consists of multiple components working together, then for example if your AX AOS is down, then both AX AOS and Enterprise Portal will fail on the health check since EP does not work without AX AOS.
