Temporary item hold

Hi,

I'm using Dynamics GP 2010 R2, I have received an item but it has to go to quality assurance before we can actually sell it.

Is there a way to temporarily hold the item for issuance until it is cleared from QA?

Assigning it to another site will only add additional step because we have to do transfer to our main site after passing through QA.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Jon Valera

Hi JonJon, you could change the Item type to Discontinued.  Then when it has passed QA you can change its type back to Sales Inventory?

Make sure that the Sell Discontinued Items tick box in unchecked in the Sales Order Processing window.

    Just a suggestion....

We can't discontinue those items as they have existing quantities that needed to be issue.

Only those newly received items that needed to put on hold because they need to pass through QA first.

    Ah - understood.

You could maybe put them in a seperate Inventory Bin called 'QA' - or as you said create a QA/receivings site - and transfer them to the main inventory sales site when they pass QA.

Whatever you do - you will need to do extra work.

I have tried multiple bin as well, the issue with that is in Available to Promise it still shows that those newly received items are available for issuance.

What I'm trying to do now is to transfer those quantity and change the item type to in use and not post it.

That way it will show the item quantity in allocation, thus it prevent the user in issuing those items.

The danger is that there is possiblity that it will be posted accidentally.

Is there a way to receive the item with quantity type 'in use' or 'in service'?

No - you can't receive directly into In use or In service.

We do have clients with the same requirements. They receive ino a QA site. When the QA Manager releases stock from the QA area into general stock - he/she enters a site transfer transaction in GP.

Even if you could receive directly into In Use, you would still need to do a transaction to get it out of In Use an into 'Available for sale'.

What you could do is run a smartlist every so often that showed those PO Line items where the stock was set to come into the General site (rather than the QA Site) - this would allow you to identify mistakes and correct them before the receipt is posted. Or you could automate this and create a business alert that triggers when the Site ID on a PO = General (as opposed to QA).

The reason why we want to eliminate QA site is to simplify our item inquiry such as Available to Promise, we want to view the item current standing without going back and fort to inventory and QA site.

I don't quite understand the objective on running a smartlist, once you set the item from engineering data to have it inspected, it will received directly to the QA site.

JonJon, I was wondering if you have figured anything out on this.  I have the exact same issue you do and have not been able to figure anything out.
