Can't generate CIL (already in progress)

Hi guys,

I have a simple question. I am debugging a service class using VS. How should I update it on VS when I edit that service class on AX2012. I tried compiling, refreshing, restoring, etc.?

    Are you talking about updating CIL (that's what actually executes) or about X++ (shown in Visual Studio so you can see what's going on, but it's not really executed)?

    Definitely stop debugging and start it again.

    Yes, of course! But what's problem?

    I thought my question would help you to describe the problem, if you didn't do it by yourself... I also try to explain that there are two separate components to take into account, because there is a change that you weren't aware of it.

    The previous time I ran Incremental CIL, so in VS the dialog appear if I want to update the class. But later AX crashed and now I cannot run the CIL. I tried deleting record where USERID = '-AutoSem' in syslastvalue table, but the query took like 10 minutes and didnt even finished, despite  the fact that there are only 7k records in it. So now I cant run Incr CIL and can debug only the unchanged version of class.

    Oh, being unable to generate CIL is a very different topic than updating something in Visual Studio.

    Why exactly can't you generate CIL? If you get an error, sharing it with us will give us at a chance to help you.

    AX crashed last time while generating CIL, so error says CIL is still running, but i can't delete that record in SysLastValue, so cant run incr CIL

    I assume you mean the following error (but forgot to state it): "Another instance of CIL generation is already in progress. Please wait for the operation to complete before retrying".

    Let me update the title of this thread to correspond to your question. "Debugging service on VS" doesn't look appropriate.

    When trying to delete the record from SysLastValue, first make sure you're the only user in the system. Then add a condition for ElementName = 'CIL Generation'. If the query still can't finish, look into database to see what's wrong. It suggests that there may be a lock.
