Hi, We are planning to implement Microsoft Dynamics AX on a single server in our environment as a replacement to QuickBooks application. I have created Windows server 2012 server, downloaded "mu_dynamics_ax_2012_r2_x86_x64_dvd" and planning to install it.Could you please guide me in installing the same . We will be using this for our finance department ( as a replacement to QuickBooks application) 1) Does it require a Domain environment 2)7-8 users will be connected to this server via RDP. Thanks.

Yes, Active Directory is required. You'll find many answers in following documents:

By the way, consider installing the latest version, AX 2012 R3. You'll have less things to upgrade in future.

Even for single server installation do we need active directory. Can't this run on a workgroup model ?

Can i set up in this way :

Active directory + SQL Server + AX on one server ?

What components do we need to install for running finance application ?

I already answered this question. Active Directory is required. If you don't believe me, look into official system requirements (I already gave you the link). They say: "Computers that run base Microsoft Dynamics AX components must belong to an Active Directory domain, and Active Directory must be configured in native mode."

Yes you can install Dynamics AX on multi server

Active directory in one server

SQL Server on one server but should be in domain of above Active directory

AX on one server but shoul be in domain of above active directory

for financial applciation, you need to install at least following component of Dynamics AX

Dynamcis AX Database

Dynamcis AX Application server

Dynamcis AX client

and then you need license to access the General ledger module

It suggested to read through the doc which Martin provided

Will it be fine if i do it this way ... Active directory on one server ( we already have it ) , SQL Server and AX on other server.

Any other better options available.

Hi Suren,

Always keep your Active Directory on a separate server.

Best Idea is to follow three tier(Three Servers) architecture for AX.

1. AX Application Server

2. Database Server

3. Sharepoint Server

Yes you can have it this topology...

Active directory on one server ( we already have it ) , SQL Server and AX on other server.
