Configuration Migration Tool for data transfer between instances.

Posted on by 25

I am looking to migrate the CRM 2013 On-Premises instance to latest Dynamics 365 Online. I know for transferring data there are some third party tools available. I am not sure if Configuration Migration tool (bundled in CRM SDK tools) will do the same.

Below url says the tool can transfer only the configuration data.

Please let me know if I can use the Configuration Migration Tool to transfer actual data between instances.

    Hi,

As suggested above as well, you can use COnfi migration tool but it would not work as expected if the volume of data is too large. If you have few records then you can use it for any entity. The other option to consider is Excel export Import.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

The Configuration tool can migrate the actual data, but only for small amount of data, sometime it will hang due to large amount of data. So if you are going to migrate large amount of data, a proper SSIS or Third party tool such as Scribe , Kingswaysoft would be more suitable.

    Hi Kunal Panchal,

The Configuration Migration tool can migrate actual data, but I do not recommend using it for this purpose. Instead, I would use a data extraction, transformation, and loading tool such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for migrating data.
