Functional Location reference on Asset Import

Hi,

I've been having some difficulty with Importing new asset records with Excel that have Functional Location references. When I complete the spreadsheet with the Functional Location column filled in, I can proceed with the import and all the records are created. However, the Functional Location fields all import as blank.

I've made sure that the FL is associated with the Account on the Assets. I'm at a loss here as to how I can make mutli-asset importing easier for my users when there are many functional locations as well.

Sure, we can manually update them in the Functional location component but that can be tedious when updating 100+ assets.

Thanks in advance

    Hi Chris Bishop,

I tested it on my side. It could update Functional Location column.

Below is my exported data and I type the GUID of Functional Location column:

    Snipaste_5F00_2022_2D00_01_2D00_21_5F00_17_2D00_36_2D00_01.png

Then I import it and it succeeded:

    Snipaste_5F00_2022_2D00_01_2D00_21_5F00_17_2D00_37_2D00_49.png

    Result:

    Snipaste_5F00_2022_2D00_01_2D00_21_5F00_17_2D00_38_2D00_49.png

When you import them, did you get any error?

    Thanks for the input.

This would be fine if all of my users understood GUIDs, but unfortunately, they do not.

To ask them to look up the GUIDs of each FL before running an import wouldn't work in our case. The users are accustomed to typing in the name of the record (like in Accounts) to link a row on import.

As to your last question, no, there are no errors reported in the log. It simply imports everything with the FL lookup blank.

    Hi Chris Bishop,

Typing the name of the record can also import data. Can you share you steps when you import data?

You can also refer to this thread, hope it can help you.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    1) User exports to Excel from a Customer Asset view that has Functional Locations as a column name

    2) User adds rows and relevant information, including Functional Location names (that have already been established in the FL table)

    3) User uses Import from Excel to import the saved xlsx

    4) Rows are added to the Assets table without FL fields filled in. Import Logs show everything is successfully imported

I understand how this is supposed to work. I've trained the users in how to do this with creating assets and associating account names, that all works fine.

    Hi chrispytwist,

repeated your steps and it works fine for me. If you could make sure that your FL's name is correct, you could raise a ticket to contact Microsoft.

    My test:

    Excel file

    Snipaste_5F00_2022_2D00_01_2D00_25_5F00_15_2D00_14_2D00_09.png

After I clicked import from excel and choose my file, it succeeded:

    Snipaste_5F00_2022_2D00_01_2D00_25_5F00_15_2D00_15_2D00_29.png

    Thanks Steve,

Occam's razor prevails again. I tried again and checked the Mapping. For one reason or another, the Functional Locations column was being ignored. I changed that and now it imports as expected.

    Appreciate your patience.
