CLI command or tool to "Create Deployment Packages"

Posted on by 9
I am trying to automate our package development for our payment extensions for Finance and Operations. I was wondering if there was a CLI command or tool to assist me in doing this outside of VS2022? Currently the process relies on me launching VS2022 and then Extensions -> Dynamics 365 -> Deploy -> Create Deployment Package and selecting relevant packages. Documentation can be found here Create deployable packages of models - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn

I only need this package locally and do not need to interact with LCS.

    Hi Community member,

In general, there are two ways to create deployable packages. It's either from Visual studio OR azure devops pipelines.

    Thanks,

Despite the documentation, you should never create a deployable package from Visual Studio. The correct way covers your requirement for automation is also much safer.

The right approach is using Azure DevOps build pipelines, which downloads code from course control, builds the application, creates a deployable package and optionally uploads it to LCS. This ensures that you use a known version of the application, not something that just happen to be lying in a dev box.

(Moved from D365 general forum to the Finance forum, because it's clearly about F&O and not about D365 in general.)
