Hi,
Although, I think this is not possible via some standard approach, I just wanted to confirm this anyways. Is it possible to switch from custom to entity-backed financial dimensions during database upgrade from AX2012 to D365? Dimensions have already been used on transactions. I know that dimensions are off-limits once they are used on any transactions. For example, dimensions cannot be deleted when the following conditions are true.
Thank you
Hi silentsquirrel,
This does not sound like it would be possible. Perhaps the upgrade documentation and tools will help determine this for sure.

Another option would be to open a ticket with our tech team that handles upgrade issues.

I hope that helps!
Can't your finance people change their account structures and findims used after the upgrade?
What would stop them from doing that in D365FO?
Best regards,
Ludwig
When you do a full DB upgrade, you can't change the dimensions, only create new dimensions and adjust the account structures to use the new ones.
You can also consider another upgrade procedure by only moving setup and master data. Then make changes to the dimensions and load opening balances. In that case, you will have the full history in AX2012 and start with a clean environment in Dynamics 365.
Thanks everyone for your input! I will evaluate different option and their pros/cons.
