Purchase Order Creation with outside software

I have an internal database that is used for inventory tracking.  When an item hits a minimum inventory threshold, a purchase notification is created.  Someone will approve this purchase notification - and then I want to be able to insert a record straight into GP... making a new Purchase Order in the system.  I am not very familiar with GP (I am from the other side - inventory, data management, etc.) but it looks like all data is stored in an SQL Server.  The table names are not descriptive enough for me to be able to go in and figure it out.  Can anyone help point me in the right direction for finding the right tables and what I will need to do to add a record to GP correctly?

Thanks!!

You can use eConnect create purchase order stored procedure directly from SQL to create Purchase Order.

eConnect looks really confusing...  I was hoping to just be able to send sql statement via ODBC to a set of linked tables in GP SQL Server.  I have no knowledge of GP - but have my own (non-accounting) DB built in Access with VBA...  any other ideas on how to simplify this process?

I would start by reviewing the GP SDK.  It is included in the install media. Writing directly to the GP tables requires extensive knowledge of all the table relationships. There is more to creating a PO then creating new records. Inventory records also get affected. Using eConnect or Web Services would be the preferred methods. They will do a lot of the work for you. There are examples you can review.

    Hello Riley,

to get the best outcome from using external application with the Dynamics GP i recommend using either the eConnect or the Web service.

for better understanding of the Dynamics GP tables please look at the following links it may help you:

    victoriayudin.com/gp-tables

    community.dynamics.com/.../excel-based-table-and-field-reference-for-dynamics-gp-2013

also to point at the right tables is hard because it different by every transaction or different data entered so it differs from a company to another, but you can know the tables used if you created a transaction manually and then searched for it in all the database. that may help you learning more about it.
