Very Slow Navision

Hello Everyone,

For long time, we as a company using navision as an ERP system in local (databases are within our servers) for managing data and sheets, stuffs.
Navision becoming very slow both when navigating and validating operations like billing, adjusting stock, etc.
I wanna know if there is any thing to do with database for example best practices or tweaks to improve the performance of the application and i wanna know what things to avoid that may slow down the system.
I know it could be the network-related problem but it could also be some stuffs to deal with relating to database and SQL server in network context that may help me to reduce the amount of latency in the system.

Let's discuss here what issues may result in such a problem.

What is the size of your database? Do you use maintenance plans like index rebuild, statistics and so on?

These are the main aspects that you can control in your database (SQL).

After that, could be hepful to check the code (too many flowfields? Inefficient code?).

    Hello,

The database size is around 50GB.

I don't know what index rebuild, statistics are but i will see what it's all about.

About flowfields there are already many but how can i measure the impact of them on the performance, is there any approximative quota?

Flowfields are slow if you use wrong keys or if you have indexes not well maintained. In page, try (if possible) to now show as default all the possible flowfields (they slow the page load).

Maintaining SQL is extremely important, expecially table's indexes.

It is really generic questions. If you be specific to any area of NAV is slow.

    Many paramete needs to consider.

    1. Development Standards in customization area.

    2. SQL Server configuration.

    3. SQL Maintenance Plan.

    4. Application Server Configuration.

    Hello Seif,

If You are complaining from an Overall system latency, I think the attached Best Practice Document is what you need, checking Flow fields and other aspects comes later, first check the overall sizing and configuration, then if you have issues on specific scenarios, then you can check Flowfields / Your code, and so on.

If the attachement does not work, you find alomst the same content in our Blog:

    Thanks,
