Good Morning DAX 369,
As Andre mentioned this is an additional identifier/attribute that you can use e.g. for searches/reference.
Yet, I would not put too much effort on that because ultimately, you will have to clean up the journal headers anyway to ensure that your system is running ok/fast.
For that reason, record everything that you need for searches/references in the journal lines that are used to generate the voucher.

This field is an additional attribute which can be used to identify ledger transactions next to a voucher number. There can be a default on journal names which will be inherited by a new journal header. However, this is not used in many cases. It makes more sense to fill it on the journal header which will then be a default for all journal lines.
