create multiple contacts for customers

We have about 500 customers. Each customer has multiple contacts.
 
What is the best way to adding multiple contacts for the same customer? 
 
Example: I click the three dots to add new contact 
 
 
I click new, enter contact name 'John' but when I click company name, it does not show me the list of 500 companies to choose from. 
 
 
 
when I go back to custome card to change contact to 'John' it gives the following error:
 
 
Also, when I select  different contact for the customer, will it automatically update invoicing email to that of the contact?

    You can copy what I had in my screenshot 'CUST.' If you don't have that option available for selection, create it then you can select it.

    create multiple contacts for customers
    First, you need to create a contact of the type 'Company' for each customer. This way, each customer will have a corresponding company contact. If you need multiple contacts for each company, you can create contacts of the type 'Person' under the company contact.

    To create contacts of the type 'Company,' ensure that the 'Bus. Relation Code for Customers' field is populated in the Marketing Setup page. After that, you can either manually create contacts as you’re doing now or automate the process by searching and running the 'Create Contacts from Customers' function.

    but it does not update email or address in customer card when I select  a different contact...
     
    actually now its already not letting me click on 'contact name' field, its greyed out. 
     
    Also wondering if i have to do anything differently in the 'setup marketing' ?

    Yes after selecting particular customer address and email, phone no details will be filled automatically.
