Easiest way to set up a DEV cloud instance of F&O that I can RD into?

I'm having a hard time discovering how to spin up a DEV cloud instance of latest F&O that I can RD into and experiment with X++, model changes, etc. I downloaded the Hyper-V VM of F&O so that I could have a local instance but it was AWFUL SLOW, probably because it's a Gen1 HyperV VM (why Gen1???).

Anyway, I'm guessing it's done in LCS someplace but I can't find it and I'd like to make sure I go about this the right way. When I log into LCS I see this:

(I embedded an image but it causes errors when I save - a bug in this forum I guess)

I looked in Shared asset library, but the only thing in there that looks remotely relevant is the Downloadable VHD, which as mentioned in DOG SLOW.

I would greatly appreciate instructions on how to spin up my own DEV instance of latest F&O, and how that works in terms of pricing (is it included with my company's subscription level, etc?).

I have the same question (0)

Quick thought is that the VHD ships just as a harddrive. reconfigure the VM you created to have at least 4 CPUs (default is just 1) and give it as much ram as you can. that should fix the slowness issue. Probably won't be fast but should at least make it responsive. I'll come back with how to configure something in the cloud a bit later.

Nathan: Thank you I should have thought to check the CPU count. I gave it 4 CPUs and 24,576 Mb RAM. It's still very slow, but maybe 10-20% faster than before. I run other VMs with less ram that are 20X faster.

Can I ask, how do I find the sln or proj file in AOT that I should be using to experiment and try things in F&O?

(I would still love to have a cloud instance - eagerly awaiting your instructions.)

    Hi Herriman,

The documentation for deploying development environments can be found here: docs.microsoft.com/.../access-instances

Note that the Dynamics 365 F&O development environments (local and cloud) depending quite a lot on disk I/O. You can gain performance with a really fast SSD drive which is not also hosting your operating OS.

From your last statement about included with my company's subscription level, if you are referring to free credit of partner on azure subscription, you can add the azure subscription to LCS then using the ARM deployment to deploy the tier 1 DEV VM and the user login and password for RDP will be on the LCS for you.
