Field Service Mobile for a mix of internal (users) and external (contact) technician

Hi!

Can someone please confirm, if this scenario can be implemented?

  1. Dynamics 365 Field Service should support a mix of internal (users) and external (contact) technician
  2. For the Field Service Mobile, there will be 2 mobile projects, one for standard users, another one for external (portal) users
  3. There will be a dedicated user account representing the external technician with appropriate security role, which will be also enabled for the mobile project for external (portal) users
  4. Internal users will have a different security role enabled for the mobile project for internal users
  5. This setup will enable two different project to the two different user groups
  6. The authentication credentials for external users will be stored directly in the contact entity in dedicated fields (username, password)

Any suggestions, what needs to be considered?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Robert, probably the most important consideration - do your external users have a FS license? Also keep in mind that Resco supports internal and external users, while FS Mobile only allows Standard User and OAuth2 as authentication.

Thank you Alexander, this is a just a preliminary question, if the scenario is generally possible. I will investigate the details and try to push to the direction of having everybody as a user. But in case it wouldn't be possible, I need a viable option.

The recommendation that I heard was to use Guest AAD Users. These will also be recognized by the "Enabled in Field Service Mobile" flag.

And not sure if you saw this, beginning of April Microsoft introduced a new "Dynamics 365 Field Service for Contractor" SKU, which might be relevant in your situation.

You should be able to use the Internal (Users) and external (Contact ) technicians using the following Microsoft DOC with no issues:  docs.microsoft.com/.../field-service-mobile-overview

Excellent, that could be license-wise a good solution. Thanks!

Don't agree with JBenskin - for contact resources you cannot set the "Enabled in Field Service Mobile" flag, hence you won't be able to use FS Mobile. I just tried creating an AAD guest user, created a resource for that user and successfully logged into FS Mobile.
