moving domains - best way to handle user account windows authentication? Nav 2017

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi

we are using dynamics NAV 2017 and we are moving domains.

i am in the process of migrating users from domain A to domain B.

in navision they are setup as windows authentication such as "domainA\user"

due to the trust being in place between the domains, i have been changing the windows authentication from domaina\user to domainb\user and this initially worked.

now we get an error saying a table is locked.

our workaround is to then create a new user with a windows authentication to "domainb\user" then we associate this with their existing user setup table.

whats the recommended method of doing such a thing

thanks

I think you need tp recreate the id and add it again in nav

Please note that you cannot do this like export and import users via excel this is impossible

only 2 ways , either you have to recreate new domain users or add users to db

add users to db as follow link

Hi, the main problem is that when you moving from Domain A to Domain B - SID will change.

I know that there can be option to create some rule in AD (I dont know where exactly) so that SID will not change. We did it in one of our projects.

Otherwise you can export all users from NAV to Excel, change there Domain & SID, and import it back in new installation.
