Help with Security Concerns Regarding NAV/SharePoint/O365/Web Services

Let me start by saying that I have little experience or knowledge of security protocols.

My company is currently in the process of upgrading to NAV 2013, but we will likely turn right around and begin the upgrade process, or at least testing, of NAV 2015 shortly after. One of the main things I'm looking at in the features of 2015 is the Office365 integration, web services with SharePoint, and tablet integration. I have a lot of ideas for ways to use these integrations to deliver data to our employees in the field, but my IT Director has concerns over security (his previous experience has all been in IT Security). Basically, he doesn't want to expose our internal system to the outside internet. He focuses mainly on the hardware/server/infrastructure of our IT, whereas I'm focused on the NAV/end-user/data side. So unfortunately, our knowledge bases don't crossover too well, so I'm not sure exactly how to ease his security concerns, or if he has legitimate concerns, how to understand them better myself. Can anybody give me some further information, or point me in the direction of some, on the security protocols in NAV?

Thank you!

    hi,

nav internal: use the windows client rtc

nav external: use the nav webclient (you'll need domain user and password)

    webclient with ssl:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh167264(v=nav.70).aspx

nav web services can also be secured (ssl), follow:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../ee414240(v=nav.70).aspx

    office365 and sharepoint integration:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../dn182542(v=nav.71).aspx

    Hi,

Exposing your data to internet always bring a threat and it is a very normal thing. That is why your company need to focus on adding security to your data centers and protect the data. Protecting data does not mean just hiding it in a sever and not allowing others to use as they required (on field or off the field). Protecting is, providing the correct information to correct person at the correct time and not allowing unauthorized personnel access.

You can use web client when exposing your data to the on field employees and windows client to the internal employees.  You can use web client even in the internal environment, but working in windows client is more easy (my opinion).

With the use of Active Directory (AD), you will be able to authenticate your user's loggin and will provide security. It’s possible to see who is posting what and when, as the security rights and name are included in the session. There are many ways that you can protect your data, do refer below links for more info :
