Question: Installed Base for Service (serialized products with structure)

Hello,

We are new to the Dynamics AX platform and I am hoping someone can answer this question.  Does Dynamics AX have the ability to capture/manage a product structure for a shipped products that contains multiple levels of components in parent/child relationships?  For example, I know that in the Baan environment they had an "installed base" capability that had this - which you could then link the parts to be serviced to RMAs or Field Service.

I have read about Service BOMs - but I am not sure if this can capture what we need to manage.  Here is an example:

- Product A / SN ABC123

   - Sub assembly 1 / SN CCD123

       - Part 1

       - Part 2

   - Sub assembly 2 / SN XDH323

thanks!

Matt
