Hello Guides Community-
I’ve been working on QR codes that launch specific Guides (or specific Step Cards), like this page describes:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/mixed-reality/guides/pc-app-anchor-embed-qr-code-link
I’ve been launching them using the instructions here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/mixed-reality/guides/operator-open-guide-qr-code
The links are a great feature. When they work, they take you directly to the Guide. There is no chance to select the wrong Guide. However, they are not working for us consistently.
Sometimes, when we use the QR code link, HoloLens opens the Guides app, but does not proceed to display the specific Guide we are trying to link to. Instead, the operator has to pull up the list of Guides and choose one manually.
This problem seems to occur when we've previously exited Guides to the Home experience, and then tried to use the link. This problem does not seem to occur when we've stopped Guides manually before trying to use the link. By stopping Guides manually, I mean opening it from the start menu then tapping the "x" close button on the app cube. We can also get the links to work by rebooting HoloLens.
I don't think there are any problems with our QR codes or links. Do you have any ideas what we might be doing wrong to cause the links to not work fully? I'm running low on ideas to make our links work consistently.
Thanks for any help or advice,
Andy
Hi Community-
Good news, the issue above has been resolved by a bugfix in Guides 700.4. After upgrading the version, our deeplinks have worked consistently.
Thank you for continuous improvement, Guides team!
Thanks again,
Andy
You are in good hands!

Hi Ryan-
Thank you for your feedback and information!
I agree, it sounds like the known behavior you described, when scanning a 2nd code in the same 'session'.
Yes, restarting HoloLens, or closing the Guides app manually, restores normal QR code deeplink operation.
I posted this question after getting an out of office email reply from our usual Guides team contact, Mr Klein. A little while after I posted the question, he replied from his vacation (wow, dedicated!). He said he'll follow up on this after the holidays. That works for us! We're still testing the deeplink QR code feature; none of our users are relying on it yet.
Thanks again,
Andy
Hi Andy
I believe what you're observing is a behaviour in the HoloLens OS where if a QR code is scanned for a second time in the same 'session' it will not launch the deeplink as expected.
The short term mitigation is to restart the HL and that should do the trick. Let me know if that works.
Last I heard the OS team was going to address this but I'm not sure where it's at. Hopefully someone from the product team can provide an update.
Ryan
Hello Again-
I didn't mention in my previous message that this is a low priority question. If your company is anything like mine, folks have probably started taking end of year vacations for the upcoming holidays. It's no problem to wait until next year to give feedback about my question.
Thanks again,
Andy
