D365FO Upgrade - Visual Studio 2017 Build Error

I'm using Visual Studio 2017 on my local VM downloaded from LCS.  I am upgrading from AX2012R3 and using DevOps with TFVC repo. After a Model Refresh and cleaning out of bad references I attempted a recommended Build of the affected model.  An error displayed that another X++ build is currently running. I have tried every corrective measure I could find online and in the Community - remove the other build in Task manager (there wasn't another build); select Build -> Cancel under the Build menu (no such menuitem found); two reboots (one cold, one hot); I even downloaded a new VM and built from scratch (same error).  I suppose I could proceed with to remove conflicts, but I believe I will need to incremental builds eventually.

I appreciate all comments, help, recommendations.

Thank you.

    Hi Rodney,

You selected to build the ApplicationSuite model which now contains an overlayering model. You have to create a new extension based model(s) and move all objects to the extension models. Overlayering is not possible for standard application models.

It would require probably some refactoring of code to use events or Chain of Commands.

    Hi Andre,

Thank you very much for the quick response.  I should have mentioned that I'm more concerned, at this time, about the build error.  I am assigned to setting up the environments (2) and conflict resolution. My associate will work on removing overlays. Your response above was valuable to her and she thanks you!  Other that the build error, I am finished with setting up both my environments. Do you think I can put the build error aside for now and begin my conflicts?  Or, do you feel it's better to find out what is going wrong with the build error.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Rodney

    Hi Rodney,

I have not seen this exact error myself, but think it could be related to the overlayered model. That is why I put in the comments about the overlayering. What exact conflicts are you referring to?

If you are updating your dev box and it failed it may cause a mismatch between VS D365 extension. Please check this post on how to update your VS d365 extention https://community.dynamics.com/forums/thread/details/?threadid=27644005-ce5a-4bb5-b594-28fd81352dfa
