Downloading AX license without active BREP

Hi, experts!

If customer stopped paying BREP in 2014, and living with Axapta 3.0, can they make upgrade to AX2009 and download AX2009 licenses? is it anyhow linked with BREP status?

My understanding that they were paying till 2014 and 2009 was available during these years already, so they should have right to get 2009 version.

It would be great to get real life expereince advise!

Since licenses are not sold for AX 2009 and 2012 anymore for new implementations, and also your user does not seem to have an active software assurance contract, it is highly unlikely that they would be able to procure a new license for upgrade purposes.

Also mainstream support will end next April for AX 2009 SP1, and only extended support will exist after that. I am not even sure they would be able to sucessfully upgrade by that time if they got a lot of customizations.

But then again, it is best to contact your Microsoft Partner Account Manager to get confirmation on this.

Vilmos, thank you for prompt reply!

Is 3.0 -> 2009 requires upgrade with order process?   I had small hope that both version licenses would jsut be awailable for download from customersource.

When I log on to CustomerSource, select my account > Company profile > Products & Services summary > Registration keys, I can see that I am entitled for AX 2012 Version. We have an active Business Value enhancement plan. It says I am entitled for 2012 licenses only, which I can download. Check what your customer can see there.

If we plan to upgrade to D365fO I'd have to get that through a partner channel, where they would recalculate based on my current AX usage profile and future business growth that how many and what kind of AX 7 licenses should I get. I believe from Axapta 3.0 to 2009 you would get license changes as well, so it would not be a straight download for sure.

Customer has to be on BREP and that will mean back payments.

If not on BREP then you also can't purchase additional licenses- (otherwise you have a system part supported/part unsupported).

Forget Ax 2009 it goes off support next year anyway.

It may be simpler now to rebuy - but do it quickly before the Price increases 1 July and it will not be available then for what is effectively a new user,.
