Hi All,

Greetings

I am new to AX 2012 with no mcuh exposure to FA.

My client wants to split a FA .I gave her the steps as to how to do in AX 2012.

When she tried to follow the steps she got the error that the'1' cannot be picked becuase 0.0 are available from inventory

The question from the client is as follows-

"For this method,  wonder is it ok if we manually add back the inventory and split the asset,  will the qty be reduced.

Eg.  We need to split to anther 4 assets,  shd we add back 4 quantity.  The would the qty be reduced when we split the asset? "

Can someone explain me what is this and what would be the solution to this.

(***I searched the class-Asset Split-Value models-Function--split FA(default functionality)? but i didnt get any thiing to reply to the user.

I need some finance person expertise, Plese help

RE: Split FA in Ax 2012

    HI,

Can someone tell me when I post the FA journal

    Type=Acquiston adjustment

    Account-Main FA to splt(FA-Main)

    Offset account type-FA

    Offaccount  account-FA _SPlit1

When i post it it creates an additional line ofor FA-expense (purchase) line and also some inventory is hit

I debugged but no luck.Is there a parameter for this to avoid the hitting of FA expense (purchase account)

    Please help

    Hi NDingankar22,

Looking at your 1st and 2nd comments in this thread; it sound like you used inventory item to procure a new FA through PO and later there was no stock in hand available for that item which is causing this error.

However; I missed out one point to mention in that case, you had to increase the inventory either by purchasing or by inventory adjustment journal as you already passed. Thanks for highlighting this.

Going ahead; better, if you can use the inventory to fixed asset journal to consume that item for FA before the on hand goes off for certain reason. Then no need to pass an additional inventory adjustment entry as it may effect in your P/L.

If you have any further concern on this; let us know please.

    Best regards,
    Sourav Dam

    Thank you Sourav.

I did tried to  use " Inventory to FA journal" but still i got the error of inventory(the inventory is not available )

I passed the Inventory adjustment journal for the said item and than was able to successfully post the journal.

I will try the remaining steps but i belived u asked to use the Inventory to FA journal to get rid of the inventory error? Am i correct.

RE: Split FA in Ax 2012

    Hi NDingankar22,

Kindly correct my understanding first if I am wrong.

--- You have done a customization in purchase order form in order to record multiple fixed asset IDs which is supporting by a selection check box called 'Create multiple FA' as available in PO.

--- By mistake, this check box is not selected and only 1 fixed asset ID is created even though you selected more than 1 quantity in PO line.

--- You are using inventory / stocked item to do acquisition of new fixed assets through PO; is that so ?

--- Now when you are trying to split this fixed asset into multiple assets, ERP is showing error like "1.00 cannot be picked because 0.00 are available from inventory".

    Question is;

    1) Have you checked whether the item which you used to procure the new fixed asset in PO is still available in your stock or not?

    2) Or have you checked whether that item is not stopped from any type of transactions or not?

    3) Have you tried with Inventory to fixed assets journal available in Fixed assets module in AX2012 to consume that stocked item and move the cost in that newly created fixed asset or not?

Concern: - I believe, this is a major customization in system; directing the ERP to procure multiple assets from one line in the PO where you can mention more than 1 quantity and system has to create equivalent number of fixed asset IDs from that line itself. If your answer is 'Yes', then would like to know why you just don't follow the standard by creating multiple lines in PO and having 1 quantity in each line ?

    Test scope: - Please test below steps in Test environment first to see if this is working;

--- Create a new Inventory to fixed asset journal to consume the cost of that item in that new fixed asset which is created through PO.

--- Once the item is consumed, it will be no more available in the inventory.

--- No need to worry about the offset account as both Fixed asset and Item will be knocked off in this journal.

    --- Post the journal.

--- Then manually create new fixed asset IDs in system in the same asset group where that new FA was created through PO. Example; if you want to split the original fixed asset into total 5 new assets; then you have to manually create 4 new assets in the Fixed assets form in FA module.

--- Make sure that you have selected the Value model in each of these new assets.

--- When all these are set, you can start splitting the original asset into these many assets.

Once you follow all these, kindly update if you are still facing any challenge.

Will be waiting to hear from you on this.

    Best regards,
    Sourav Dam

RE: Split FA in Ax 2012

    Hi All,

This is standard FA module in AX 2012. The steps I asked user to follow is. The user has posted few invoices and she missed ticking "creare multiplt FA " checkbox which resulted in creation of single FA record, Now user wants that craeted FA to be splitted. But when she does that, she gets error that inventory is not available.

The question is if she follows the below process(she gets an error as inentory is 0.0)-So if we add back 4 qty and split the assets again

,  would the qty be reduced to zero ?

    • Go to FA module-CommonFA

    • Before splitting your fixed asset, you must have another asset created

    • Double click on the asset you would like to split and then click the value models button at the top of the form.-(FA-Value models)

    • At the top of the value models form, click the Functions button and then select Split fixed asset.

    • It will bring you to this form.  In the To fixed asset field, select the asset in which you just created.  Next, select the appropriate value model and transaction date.  The percent field will determine what percentage of the book value of the original asset will be accounted for in the new, split off asset.  Example: If the asset’s original book worth was $100K and you select 50%, then the new split asset’s book worth will be $50K.  The original asset’s book value will now be 50% of its original value, or simply down to $50K as well.  Select a fixed journal in the name field and click OK

    • U will get an infolog

    • go to FA journal to acesss he FA

    • Find your Split fixed asset journal and click the Lines to enter the journal.

    • Validate the journal and post.  Note: This function accounts for any depreciation expense the previous asset may have incurred over its service life and adjusts for the new asset.

    • Travel back to your fixed assets list page to see the new book values for your assets.

    Hi,

For splitting an existing asset you do not necessarily to go 'back' to inventory. You can simply do that from the fixed asset value model. Have you tried doing that?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi NDingankar,

Can you tell which exact steps you provided to the customer? Are there also add-ons in use like an Enterprise Asset Management solution?
