Hello Experts,

I have a scenario where fixed assets are inventoried with weighted average item model. Now i want to move them to fixed asset module with purchase price instead of the cost price (Weighted average price.)

Can you please guide me how i can complete this task.

Faisal

    Hi Faisal,

You can't use the purchase price because the inventory to fixed asset journal is taking out the item from your warehouse and posts and issue transactions. The issue price is something that you cannot influence but that is calculated by AX.

You could of course make an adjustment for that but I would recommend not doing that because it might mess up your inventory values.

Can't you use a workaround and post e.g. an inventory adjustment journal that takes out the item from the warehouse with the current cost price and then post a manual GL journal that Posts the acquisition against the account that was used when posting the inventory adjustment?

This will of course result in a difference that remains on your account (purchase Price - current cost Price).

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig

Thank you for the response. This is a good suggestion and will not show any difference if adjusted total asset through inventory adjustment journal and acquired them with crediting the inventory adjustment journal account through the acquisition journal.

But there can be few cases in which fixed assets are issued through the movement journal. what should be done in that case.

    Many Thanks

    Faisal.

    Hello Faisal,

The difference between an ordinary inventory adjustment journal and a movement journal is that you can select the offset account in a movement journal.

If you use the same account that is setup in the inventory posting profile as the offset account then there is no difference in the process.

In case a different offset account is used, the fixed asset acquisition posting has to be made against the different account selected in the movement journal.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig

Thank you for the response. I have a scenario in which one of fixed asset is posted through the item movement journal. i want to revert it back so that i can move it accurately to the fixed asset module and avoid the difference of Purchase price and cost amount which can be raised due to weighted average item model attached.

    Many Thanks

Have you tried using the "Inventory to fixed assets journal" in the FA-module?

    Hi Daxer

Thank you for the response. I can not use inventory to Fixed asset journal because in my scenario because weighted average method is attached with the fixed asset items which are inventoried. If i use inventory to fixed asset journal then system will transfer the assets to fixed asset asset module with cost (weighted average price) instead of actual purchase price. In this case i am agreed with Mr. Ludwig.

Now i have second scenario where fixed asset which have weighted average model attached has been issued to some department through the inventory movement journal. Now i want to revert them back so that i can transfer them to the fixed asset module on price. Should i have to use Item movement journal for it?

    Hello Faisal,

If I got your 2nd scenario right then you just need to reverse the inventory movement journal that has been posted, right?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig

Thank you for the response. Yes you got right.Should i have to use item movement journal or you have any other suggestions?

I have further question regarding this issue that the item movement journal is showing zero cost price against the fixed asset which has been issued. Now how i can identify that at which cost asset is issued.

    Many Thanks

    Faisal

    Hi Muhammad

I was responding to the "inventory to FA journal" in terms of your second scenario. Either use this inventory journal or (simplest) just an inventory movement journal to reverse postings from "item point of view" (and then acquire in a FA journal).

Either way, if department is required, then I suppose it's because of other issue that you need to consider anyway, possibly because some main acccounts are setup for requiring this.
